Bruce Trust Test Invertec LED Lighting
The Bruce Trust is a registered charity which provides purpose-built, wide-beam canal boats on the Kennet and Avon Canal from two bases, for hire for self catering holidays by disabled, disadvantaged or elderly people and their carers. After many years of faithful service from Invertec Fluorescent light fittings on their boats, Mike Lang , one of the Trust's volunteers, agreed with Invertec to put some of their LED light fittings on long term test in advance of launching their new Kurve LED light fitting. These LED fittings have now completed over 1000 hours of problem free operation.
Mike commented on the new LED lights saying “Our hirers have noticed the difference with these new LED lights, they provide a nice bright white light which makes the cabin look airy and clean, and compared to standard fluorescent provide better illumination. The current consumption is lower than standard fluorescent fittings and much lower than standard light bulbs and halogen bulbs, which therefore reduces battery drain when the engine is not running. With an predicted life of over 50,000 hours, we also expect that we will not need to replace anything for quite some time, unlike halogen or fluorescent tubes, which will also reduce our costs over time. We are very happy with the LED lights which we have been testing and will now look to replace all our light fittings with Invertec LED technology.”
Invertec MD David Paulson commented “We had an ideal opportunity get some real world testing on our new LED technology before launching it in our new Kurve light. We have supplied over 250 buses in the UK with this technology, but wanted to make sure that it worked as well in boats as it does in buses. We thank Mike and the Bruce Trust for this opportunity and are happy that they are pleased with the results.”

EU Directive spells end for Halo-phosphour Tubes
In a drive to reduce Carbon Emissions on a pan European level, The European Commission has put into effect new directives to phase out energy inefficient lamps.
These directives cover all lighting areas, including T8 Halophosphor lamps with effect on April 13th 2010.
Commission Regulation (EC) No 245/2009 with regards to Eco Design requirements for fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, for high intensity discharge lamps, and for ballasts and luminaries able to operate such lamps requires fluorescent lamps to meet specific performance criteria including lumens/Watt, lumen maintenance, power factor and colour rendering.
Based on the above requirements our current standard (15/18/30/36/58Watt) T8 Halophosphor tubes fail to meet the requirements.
This means that manufacture of this category of lamp will cease on 13 April 2010, and supply will diminish as any existing stocks are depleted. Full Story ...![]()
